If you really want to know about me then read my blog, everything I am willing to share, is or will be in the posts. But for those of you who need instant gratification here are the basics spelled out:
Brian Matlin
I was born in Montreal Quebec Canada in the year 1965. I have two parental units three siblings a brother and two sisters plus two nephews and one niece. I’m on my second marriage and quite happy. We have husky, six cats no children. When people ask me about children I tell them that we did have one but the dog was allergic so we had to adopt the kid out to some third world country, who knows maybe he will end up in the Jolie/Pitt clan.
I’ve spent most of my life in the magic business. In ’74 my folks opened up a magic shop in the basement which is still going strong today (although no longer in the basement). Early on I did a bunch of odd jobs but always wound up in the magic shop and in some ways never really escaped. It’s like a gang or a small town once in, never out!
In the early ’90s I left the cold miserable winters of Montreal and headed out to wonderful Vancouver BC where I operated our second store. In the early ’00s I picked up again and wound up in the cold mountains of central Pennsylvania on the outskirts of a small town about 30 minutes (now 20 as they built a highway) from the home of Penn State University and the Nittany Lions WE ARE…PENN STATE! ROAR! Don’t worry if you don’t get the reference just imagine one hundred thousand plus people standing in a stadium yelling the words in unison at the top of their lungs while stomping their feet with each word spoken. We have 11 wooded acres just above the snow line on the side of a mountain. Sounds idyllic until you have to deal with leaves in the fall, clear the snow in the winter or simply want to order out for pizza.
When I moved to central Pa I wound up doing time in the banking industry for the first five years and now find myself in inventory management for a cable/internet/phone company. I must admit I still keep with the magic and find myself performing at work now and again. For some reason my fellow co-workers are quite amused that they have a Jewish Canadian Magician in their midst.
My wife and I are involved in animal rescue. We release wild life on our property for a local wildlife rehabilitator as well as help out a few pet rescue organizations. We also help any animal that crosses our path that is in need of help including the 6 we have now. We belong to the County Animal Response Team (C.A.R.T) which can only be activated by 911 and they will only do so in the case of a disaster of some sort. We won’t be called out to get your cat down from a tree but my wife and I may help you on our own but be prepared for a lecture on letting your cats roam wild.
As for the rest you’ll have to decipher it yourself in the blog.
Thanks for reading
